The first week of advent is about hope. Not just pie-in-the-sky “I-hope-I-get-some-good-presents” or “I-hope-that-Uncle-Frank-isn’t-drunk-at-Christmas-dinner” kinds of hope. But Christian Hope.
Firstly, it is about the hope that God’s people had for Christ’s first arrival. His first coming. His Advent.
Secondly, it’s about our own hopes. Not just everyday hopes, but hopes that are founded on God and His goodness. Like the hope for future grace in our lives. Hope for future mercy in our lives. Hope for future justice to be delivered, where injustice reigns. Hope for God’s future provision for us.
Most of all, it is about the ultimate hope of Heaven.
