Uniqueness

— Aaron

I don’t like “uniqueness” (if it even is a word – but if its not, I still don’t like the concept). Its not that I’m opposed to people, things, sounds, smells or anything else being unique – its that I’m opposed to people saying things like “That’s a very unique dog” or “She’s more unique than most folks.” Those don’t make any sense! If something is unique, it is. If it’s not unique, it’s not. There is no “spectrum of uniqueness.” Unique means there’s nothing like it. If something very-much-has-nothing-like-it, then there it is implied that there are other things that somewhat-have-nothing-like-it, and that makes no sense. Words like “unique” and “nothing” are absolutes – they are black or white. No gray area…
